Introduction

TapFocus was created with privacy-first principles. The app helps you block distracting apps and unlock them with NFC tags, QR codes, or barcodes. Your focus setup and Unlock Tags are stored locally on your device whenever possible, and we do not operate servers that collect or store your personal information.

Information We Collect

Local Device Storage

TapFocus stores the following information on your device:

  • Focus names, schedules, and app blocking configuration
  • Unlock Tag names and tag types, such as NFC, QR code, or barcode
  • Active focus state and emergency unlock timestamps
  • App settings and onboarding state

This information is used only to make TapFocus work on your device.

Screen Time Data

TapFocus uses Apple’s Screen Time frameworks to let you choose which apps, categories, or web domains to block.

Apple provides TapFocus with privacy-preserving tokens for your selections. TapFocus does not receive the names of every app you use, your browsing history, or detailed Screen Time activity. Screen Time permissions are managed by iOS.

Unlock Tags

TapFocus can use NFC tags, QR codes, and barcodes as Unlock Tags.

  • NFC tags are read only when you choose to scan one.
  • QR codes and barcodes are scanned only when you open the scanner.
  • TapFocus stores a cryptographic hash of the tag content, not the original tag value.
  • Tag credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain when possible.

Unlock Tags are used as intentional friction, not as a security guarantee.

Camera Access

TapFocus requests camera access only to scan QR codes and barcodes. Camera frames are processed on your device for scanning and are not saved, uploaded, or shared.

Third-Party Services

TelemetryDeck: We use TelemetryDeck for privacy-first analytics. TelemetryDeck may collect:

  • An anonymized device identifier
  • App usage events, such as screens viewed or features used
  • Device metadata, such as iOS version and app version
  • Approximate timestamps

TelemetryDeck does not collect your name, email address, precise location, advertising identifier, or IP address for tracking. TapFocus does not send TelemetryDeck your blocked app selections, Unlock Tag values, QR code contents, barcode contents, NFC payloads, or Screen Time activity.

You can learn more at https://telemetrydeck.com/privacy/.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or phone number
  • Precise location data
  • Contacts or calendar information
  • Photos, videos, or camera recordings
  • NFC payloads, QR code contents, or barcode contents
  • Detailed Screen Time activity or browsing history
  • Payment information
  • Advertising identifiers

We do not sell your personal information.

How We Use Information

TapFocus uses local data to save your focus setup, apply app blocking, manage schedules, and match scanned Unlock Tags. Analytics data helps us understand which parts of the app are used and how to improve TapFocus.

Data Storage and Security

TapFocus stores app data locally using Apple’s device storage protections. Unlock Tag credentials are stored as hashes and saved in the iOS Keychain when possible. We do not sync your TapFocus data to a developer-operated cloud service.

Your Rights and Choices

Screen Time Permissions

You can manage Screen Time permissions in the iOS Settings app.

Camera Access

You can manage camera access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.

Data Deletion

Uninstalling TapFocus deletes locally stored app data from your device. iOS may retain some system-managed permission records according to Apple’s own privacy practices.

GDPR Rights (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to request data portability.

Since TapFocus does not collect personal data on developer-operated servers, most privacy choices can be exercised by managing iOS permissions or uninstalling the app. Contact us for any privacy-related requests.

CCPA Rights (California Residents)

California residents may have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, opt out of sale or sharing, and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.

We do not sell your personal information.

Children’s Privacy

TapFocus does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not require account creation or personal contact information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this policy.
