Intel Helper is an iOS application developed by Matthew Davies (daviesgeek) that provides an enhanced interface for the Ingress Intel Map. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our app.
Our Privacy Commitment: Intel Helper is designed with a local-first approach. Your data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information.
Information We Collect
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following information is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- Bookmarks: Saved Intel map locations and associated names
- Map State: Your last viewed map position (latitude, longitude, zoom level)
- App Preferences: In-app purchase status, and other app configuration
- HTTP Cookies: Map position data used by the Ingress Intel Map web interface
- Persistent Storage: App data managed through iOS Core Data
This information remains under your control and can be deleted by uninstalling the app or clearing app data through iOS Settings.
Information Shared with Third Parties
Intel Helper integrates with several third-party services that may collect information directly from you:

Location Data
Intel Helper requests access to your device location to:
- Center the Intel map on your current position
- Enable location-based map features
Important: Your location data is used only locally on your device to interact with the Ingress Intel Map. We do not transmit, collect, or store your location data on our servers.
What We Don’t Collect
We want to be clear about what we do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- User-generated content beyond local bookmarks
- Contact lists, calendar data, or health information
- Photos or media library access
- Precise location tracking or location history
- Payment information (handled entirely by Apple)
- Analytics data beyond crash reports
- Search history or browsing behavior
How We Use Your Information
We use crash report data to:
- Identify and fix bugs
- Improve app performance and stability
- Understand which iOS versions and devices to support
We do not:
- Sell or rent your information to third parties

Third-Party Services
Intel Helper relies on several third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
1. Ingress Intel Map (Niantic)
The core functionality of Intel Helper loads the official Ingress Intel Map from Niantic in a web view. When you use the Intel map:
- You are subject to Niantic’s Privacy Policy
- You must authenticate with your Google account through Niantic’s systems
- The Intel map may receive your location data if you choose to share it
- We have no control over Niantic’s data collection or practices

2. Google AdMob (Advertising)
If you use the free version of Intel Helper, we display advertisements through Google AdMob:
- AdMob collects device identifiers for ad personalization
- You can limit ad tracking through iOS Settings > Privacy > Tracking
- Ads are removed when you purchase the “Pro” upgrade

3. Crashlytics/Firebase (Crash Reporting)
We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports:
- Helps us identify and fix app crashes
- Collects anonymous diagnostic data

4. Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchases)
In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple:
- We receive only confirmation of purchase status
- Payment information is handled by Apple, not us
- Subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
Your bookmarks, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device using:
- iOS UserDefaults
- Core Data persistent storage
- HTTP cookies managed by iOS
This data is protected by your device’s security features, including device encryption and iOS sandbox protections.
Server Storage
We do not operate servers that store your personal data. The app communicates directly with third-party services as described above.
Data Retention
- Local data persists until you delete the app or clear app data
- Crash reports are retained by Firebase according to their retention policies
- Purchase records are maintained by Apple
Your Privacy Rights
California Residents (CCPA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to:
- Know: Request information about data collected (we don’t collect personal data on our servers)
- Delete: Request deletion of your data (uninstall the app to remove all local data)
- Opt-Out: Opt out of data “sales” (we don’t sell your data)

Regardless of your location, you can:
- Disable location access: iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Intel Helper
- Limit ad tracking: iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
- Delete all app data: Uninstall the app from your device
Children’s Privacy
Intel Helper is intended for users aged 13 years and older, consistent with Niantic’s Ingress game requirements.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has used this app, please contact us at ingressintelhelper@daviesgeek.com, and we will assist you in removing any associated data.
Parents should supervise their children’s use of the app and review Niantic’s privacy practices for the Ingress Intel Map.
International Users
Intel Helper is available worldwide, but is developed and maintained in the United States.
If you use Intel Helper from outside the United States:
- Your data may be processed in the United States or other countries where our third-party services operate
- Different countries have different privacy laws
- By using the app, you consent to the transfer of information as described in this policy
